Dr Mhairi McKenzie Smith is an LSE Fellow in the Department of Health Policy. Prior to joining LSE Mhairi taught on the BASc at UCL, was a visiting researcher at the Health Technology and Health Assessment Institute at Glasgow University, and has supported the creation of a Health Economics Module at the University of Edinburgh.  Mhairi has also worked within the NHS on data analysis and service development, primarily in the areas of mental health and workforce.

Mhairi’s research largely focuses on child health, experiences and the use of patient and public involvement (PPI) in research. However, Mhairi is also interested in European health systems and financing, implicit and explicit biases, and the response to the recent COVID-19 pandemic. Mhairi is a mixed-methods researcher, as such, her work involves both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.

Mhairi completed her PhD in Child Health Research at UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health. Preceding this Mhairi graduated with a First-Class Honours MA in Economics from the University of Dundee and completed an MSc in International Health Policy (Health Economics) at LSE.
