Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI)

at the Department of Health Policy

LSE is committed to building a diverse, equitable and inclusive environment for its staff and students, a vision that the Department of Health Policy also shares.

We endeavour to build an inclusive working and learning environment, support all staff and students regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, religion and age, and to ensure an inclusive culture of equity, diversity and respect within our community.

EDI in the Department of Health Policy

The Department's EDI Committee acts as the point of contact and forms the forum for monitoring, promoting, and protecting equity and diversity at the Department, among staff and students.

Purpose of having an EDI Committee is to:

  • Review and monitor department policies and processes with regard to their impact on equity and diversity and, where appropriate, making recommendations for change;
  • Promote an environment where concerns about equity and diversity can be freely raised and discussed;
  • Promote a greater awareness and understanding of equity, diversity, and inclusion; encourage participation; and contribute to these initiatives.

EDI at the School

The School’s commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion is one of its six strategic priorities, as highlighted in the LSE Strategy 2030, and ‘equity of respect and opportunity’ is one of the core principles set out in the School’s Ethics Code.

The School is committed to a working and learning environment where people can achieve their full potential free from any form of discrimination, harassment or bullying and is committed to providing an inclusive culture of equality, diversity and respect between individuals. Read the policy from here.

Support for LSE for students and staff

LSE’s EDI Office is the primary contact point for EDI issues throughout the School. Their work is informed by LSE's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy 2022, which was developed in the context of the Equality Act 2010LSE Strategy 2030, the LSE Ethics Code and the School's Effective Behaviours framework. The EDI office also provides support to a number of staff networks.
