The project focuses on the ethical challenges faced by political agents who pursue climate change mitigation. On the one hand, climate change threatens hundreds of millions of human lives. On the other hand, political agents who want to prevent such a catastrophe may need to resort, in despair, to political means that seriously harm innocents.
The project addresses three dilemmatic political action scenarios:
- Green political parties who enter coalition agreements and that need to compromise on morally serious goals for the sake of concessions on climate policy.
- Corporations that may need to resort to undemocratic forms of influence in policymaking in order to push for ambitious climate policy.
- Climate activists who may need to resort to forms of direct action harming property in order to prevent climate deaths.
