Aliz Tóth is an Assistant Professor of Political Science. Her research focuses on state capacity, bureaucracy, and the politics of natural resources in India. She is working on a book manuscript that investigates the causes of conflict over land acquisition for infrastructure projects. In her research, she uses a variety of methods including original surveys, field experiments, observational data, and in-depth interviews.
- Why do states and private sector entities struggle to acquire land for large scale infrastructure projects?
- Which institutions and policies reduce (or heighten) conflict over natural resources such as land, forests, and mineral resources?
- When do bureaucrats enable the state to extract resources from citizens?
