About me

Diana Koester focuses on gender and governance, particularly in fragile and conflict-affected settings. Her doctoral research on gender and post-conflict statebuilding (University of Oxford) was awarded the Political Studies Association Elizabeth Wiskemann Prize for the best doctoral dissertation in the field of (in)equality and social justice and the University of Oxford Bapsybanoo Marchioness of Winchester Prize for outstanding thesis on international relations and human rights. It was also a finalist for best doctoral dissertation of all subject areas in Germany/by a German national (Körber Foundation). In addition to her academic work, Diana has developed extensive policy research and guidance on gender, peace and governance for governments, International Organizations and civil society, including as advisor with the OECD, the Federal Government of Somalia, the United Nations and the International Dialogue on Peacebuilding and Statebuilding - the first forum for political dialogue between countries affected by conflict and fragility, development partners and civil society. She currently leads multi-country, multi-year research on the use of gender data in policy-making with the OECD/Paris21, funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. As Research Associate with ODI, she leads work on gender and digital technologies. Diana holds an MPhil in Politics from Oxford and a BSc in IR and History from LSE.
