When I was preparing for my LSE Summer School experience, one of the most important decisions I had to make was choosing where to live. After researching my options, I decided on High Holborn, one of LSE’s accommodation options, and I can confidently say it was one of the best decisions I made. From its unbeatable location to its comfortable living spaces and welcoming community, High Holborn truly enhanced my time at LSE - let me tell you why.

The Perfect Location

One of the biggest advantages of High Holborn is how close it is to campus - it’s just a 10-minute walk away! This made it incredibly easy to get to my classes, attend lectures, and participate in campus activities without worrying about long commutes. Whether I was rushing to an early morning seminar or heading back to my room after a late study group, the convenience of being so close to LSE was a game-changer.

Another great perk is that its super close to the British Museum, Covent Garden, different restaurants and supermarkets for your weekly food shop.

Comfortable and Practical Living Spaces

The rooms at High Holborn are designed with students in mind. You can choose between single, double, or triple rooms, depending on your preference. I stayed in a single room, which was spacious, comfortable, and equipped with a desk, mirror, sink, fan and plenty of storage space - perfect for both studying and relaxing. While bathrooms, showers, and kitchens are shared with approximately 6 or 7 people, I never had any issues with this setup. The cleaning service, which comes once a week, ensures that the shared spaces are always tidy and pleasant for everyone.

A Welcoming and Social Community

What really stood out to me about High Holborn was the friendly and inclusive atmosphere. Everyone in the building was approachable and eager to make friends, which made it easy to feel at home right away. One of my favourite tips for new residents is to sit with a group during breakfast and strike up a conversation. Breakfast is included every day and offers a great variety of options, including bread, milk, cereals, fruit, and cheese. It’s not just a meal - it’s an opportunity to connect with others and start your day on a positive note.

I also encourage you to take the initiative to meet your flatmates early on. On my first day, I knocked on doors and introduced myself, and some of my closest friendships started with simple chats in the kitchen. Whether we were cooking together, sharing a cup of coffee, or just hanging out, those moments helped create a sense of community that made High Holborn feel like a home away from home.

Great Amenities for Student Life

High Holborn also offers fantastic amenities that made my daily life easier, more enjoyable, and well-rounded. One of my favourite features was the in-accommodation gym, which became part of my morning routine. Starting my day with a workout helped me stay active, energized, and ready to tackle my classes and assignments. Beyond the gym, High Holborn has a laundry area, which was incredibly convenient for keeping up with my laundry without having to leave the building. The study spaces were another highlight - quiet, well-lit, and perfect for focusing on coursework or preparing for exams. For those who enjoy music, there’s even a dedicated music room, which adds a creative touch to the living experience and caters to a variety of interests.

Another practical feature is the small chip you’re given to scan for entry into the building. It’s convenient, secure, and makes coming and going hassle-free. I never had to worry about carrying keys or getting locked out, which was a small but significant perk that made life easier.

One of the things I appreciated most about High Holborn was the flexibility to bring friends over during certain hours. The common spaces are ideal for group study sessions, collaborative projects, or simply spending quality time together. Whether it was watching movies, having thoughtful conversations, or just relaxing after a busy day, the common areas provided a welcoming environment to connect with others. These spaces truly enhanced the social aspect of living at High Holborn, making it easy to build friendships and create lasting memories.

Overall, the combination of practical amenities and social opportunities made High Holborn not just a place to live, but a vibrant community where I could balance academics, wellness, and social life seamlessly.

Why High Holborn Made My LSE Experience Special

Choosing High Holborn as my accommodation was one of the best decisions I made during my LSE Summer School journey. Its prime location, comfortable living spaces, and vibrant community created the perfect environment for both studying and socialising. Whether you’re an early riser hitting the gym, a night owl studying in the common areas, or someone looking to make lifelong friends over breakfast, High Holborn has something for everyone.

If you’re considering your accommodation options for LSE Summer School, I highly recommend High Holborn. It’s more than just a place to stay - it’s a place to grow, connect, and make unforgettable memories.
