Each session at LSE Summer School offers a world-class experience – the same leading faculty, the same social and professional skills programmes, the same iconic city of London. However, we want to highlight why Session 3, taking place from 4 - 22 August in 2025, is particularly worth considering for your Summer School experience!

1. Round off your summer at the UK’s University of the Year

We know that many of you want to make the most of your summer, whether that means completing an internship, studying, holidaying around the world, or working. With Session 3 taking place in August, you can spend the earlier portion of your summer doing any of the former and round off your summer exploring world-leading research at LSE Summer School, meeting new people, and enjoying a top student city. Studying at LSE in the final portion of your summer could also be a great way to ease back into academia before your new semester begins. Your summer possibilities are endless, and studying with us in August gives you freedom to pursue all your options.

2. Higher availability of our popular courses

Some of our popular courses run twice, with the second taking place in Session 3. Explore courses like MG101: Marketing and FM250: Finance with smaller classes, but still the same expert teaching, giving you the opportunity to really delve into the topics you want to cover. Plus, we offer a variety of courses exclusively in Session 3, such as IR117: The Future of Democracy and EC212: Introduction to Econometrics (explore all our Session 3 courses here) – take the opportunity to learn something completely new, led by renowned faculty!

3. Availability of accommodation

We know that finding somewhere to live while studying with us can be stressful, especially if you want to stay in LSE accommodation. Another reason to study with us during Session 3 is that you are more likely to find accommodation during this session as places don’t get booked up as early. While you do not have to stay in LSE accommodation, it has its advantages - you will be within easy travel distance to campus, have access to facilities like gyms and some halls provide breakfast, and be with fellow Summer School students.

4. Amazing London events happening in August

Another great reason to study with us in August is to experience all the events happening in London during this time! For sports fans, you can watch Premier League matches from 16 August – London hosts a huge number of teams and stadiums. London will also be hosting a match of the Woman’s Rugby World Cup towards the end of Session 3, for the first time.

For music and comedy lovers, there is a lot on in August! Camden, a London borough known for its artistry, will be hosting the Camden Fringe, in which 300 comedians and theatre performers will put on their shows across multiple venues – there will be something for everyone.

If you are a festival goer, two of the UK’s biggest festivals will fall near to Session 3 - All Points East, headlined by Raye, Doechii and more, will take place in August, and Reading Festival will take place at a similar time, just after the end of the Summer School session. With artists such as Travis Scott, Chappell Roan and Hozier performing, it’s sure to be a worthwhile experience for any music lover.

Plus, there is so much else on offer in the city year round – from free museums, theatre shows, royal parks, easy access to day trips around the UK and a huge range of international cuisine, you are sure to experience London to the fullest in August 2025.

5. Build deeper connections

Session 3 is our smallest session in terms of student numbers (although it is still bigger than other London university summer school’s put together). We see this as an advantage for our students – you will have slightly smaller classes and therefore get the chance to know everyone a little better and have more time to dive into your course. Session 3 is our most diverse, so you will not miss out on meeting those from around the world and growing your international community. We run the same Spark and social programmes as in other sessions, and our courses are all taught by top academics, so you will not struggle to make friends and grow your network.

6. Explore Europe in the height of summer

August is a great time to explore Europe, as there are often summer holiday deals on offer. London has a number of international airports and train stations that are easy to access from campus, and you could be in another European city in a matter of hours! Take advantage of the international hub that is the city of London, and tick off a number of nearby countries while you’re studying with us – many students choose to spend their weekends travelling to Italy, France, Germany and many more. August is the perfect time to see Europe, for both the weather and potential summer discounts!

7. Enjoy having longer to apply

We don’t have a set application deadline for each session, which means that choosing the later Session 3 gives you more time to research your course of choice and hone your application. While popular courses do fill up quickly, attending a later session affords you a little more time to apply for both courses and accommodation, so you can focus on your exams or internship applications first.

While we know you’ll love your time at LSE Summer School, no matter what session you attend, we think it’s worth considering Session 3 – whether to finish your summer on a high, experience London in August, or make the most of our Session 3 courses, we know you’ll have the best summer with us.
