Professor Alexander Evans OBE FRHistS, Associate Dean (Strategic Development)
In addition to his existing roles as Professor in Practice and Programme Director for the MPA in Data Science for Public Policy, starting in January 2025 Professor Alexander Evans OBE FRHistS has been serving as Associate Dean for Strategic Development, a newly created role within the School of Public Policy.
“This key position will drive the development and implementation of the SPP’s strategy, strengthening our position within the global policy school community. Alexander will lead efforts to build partnerships with government bodies, international organisations, think tanks, and the private sector, while enhancing student recruitment and expanding opportunities for internships and job placements. He will also play a role in securing philanthropic support for key initiatives. This new role marks an important step in advancing the SPP’s reputation and influence, and we’re excited to welcome Alexander to it,” SPP Dean Andrés Velasco remarked.
Speaking on his new appointment, Alexander shared his ambitions for the role: “I am delighted to be taking on the role of Associate Dean for Strategic Development. I look forward to working with Dean Andrés Velasco and all our brilliant colleagues further to deepen the LSE School of Public Policy's unique global offer. In complex and volatile times, interdisciplinary, research-led professional education for public policy is needed more than ever.”
Dr Lloyd Gruber, Associate Professor (Education)
We are also delighted to welcome Dr Lloyd Gruber permanently to the School of Public Policy with a promotion to Associate Professor (Education).
“Lloyd has been an integral part of the SPP since 2008, dating back to its time as the Institute of Public Affairs, where he served as Dean from 2012 to 2014. While Lloyd’s extensive contributions and dedication to the SPP might give the impression that he has always been based here, he has, in fact, remained a member of the Department of International Development throughout this time. Since 2008, he has worked with the SPP on a 100% buyout basis as MPA Programme Director – a role he has carried out continuously and with great impact. We are delighted now to welcome Lloyd fully as a permanent member of the SPP team. Over the years, he has been instrumental in advancing the department’s academic and pedagogical initiatives and has played a central role in the broader intellectual life of the department,” Professor Andrés Velasco said.
With his long connection and involvement at the SPP, Lloyd is delighted to be joining us full-time: “Having served as MPA Programme Director since 2008, I’m excited to be joining the LSE School of Public Policy on a more permanent basis. While it has been a privilege to serve in the Department of International Development, I’ve dedicated a lot of thought and energy to the SPP over the years and look forward to continuing to contribute to its mission. Addressing complex global challenges through transformative, evidence-driven teaching and research is what we do here in the SPP. It’s been an honour – and a thrill – to be part of this.”
Please join us in congratulating Alexander and Lloyd on their new positions!
