Pre-requisites

For students from the departments of Geography & Environment, International Development and Philosophy, Logic & Scientific Method who speak English as a foreign language and require support with academic writing including coursework, exams and dissertations.

Course content

The course aims to develop the ability to write more effectively for academic purposes. By the end of the course, students will: (a) be familiar with the conventions of academic writing (b) have improved the accuracy, clarity and coherence of their written English (c) have practised clear organisation of texts and appropriate paragraphing (d) have extended their range of lexical expression (e) be able to evaluate their own writing (f) be able to write more fluently and confidently.
