Availability
This course is compulsory on the MSc in International Employment Relations and Human Resource Management and MSc in Management and Human Resources. This course is not available as an outside option.
Course content
The aim of the project is to:
Examine a problem or topic through a literature review and provide a rigorous analysis of that problem or topic;
and/or
Examine a problem or topic through some small scale empirical research or by using information derived from secondary sources;
and
Show ability to relate the specific to the general and the capacity to sustain a reasoned argument and draw conclusions.
MSc Management and Human Resources students will develop their dissertation project with their Link company. They will explore its human resource practices and research an issue it is currently facing. A suitable supervisor will be allocated.
MSc International Employment Relations and Human Resource Management students will choose their own topic in the field of Employment Relations and Organisational Behaviour which a member of faculty is willing to supervise.
Teaching
There will be a number of lectures given in the Lent Term that have been specifically designed to introduce students to theoretical, empirical and practical issues in undertaking a dissertation. There will also be a small number of programme specific sessions.

Assessment
Dissertation (100%, 10000 words) post-summer term.
Three word-processed copies of the dissertation should be handed in to the Department of Management Reception, 3rd Floor New Academic Building and recorded as received, not later than 16.00 on Friday 28th August 2015. Individual reports should not exceed 10,000 words in length. If the report is jointly authored (MSc Management and Human Resources only), it should not exceed 10,000 words per student. Each contributor is required to clearly designate which parts he or she wrote. The dissertation is considered for examination purposes to be the equivalent of one examination paper. Failing the dissertation cannot be condoned.
