On Thursday May 9th, the LSE Middle East Centre will be hosting the launch reception of 'The Fall of the Caliphate: Iraq and Syria in Transition', an exhibition by Constantin Gouvy, organised in association with LSE Arts and the LSE International Relations Department.

From the ruins of Mosul to the Syrian frontline, this photo exhibition offers a collection of windows into conflict and post-conflict themes in Iraq and Syria during the last days of the Islamic State’s so-called caliphate.

Join us on campus in the LSE Atrium Gallery (Old Building) from 7pm to 9pm for free drinks and nibbles and a discussion with the photographer.

Constantin Gouvy (@ConstantinGouvy) is a freelance journalist, photoreporter and researcher based in Iraqi Kurdistan, and a member of the Frontline Freelance Register. He has reported from Iraq and Syria for several French and English-language outlets, including IRIN News, Middle East Eye, and the Lebanese daily L'Orient-Le Jour.

Michael Mason is Director of the Middle East Centre. He is also Associate Professor in the Department of Geography and Environment and Associate of the Grantham Research Institute for Climate Change and the Environment. His research interests encompass environmental politics and governance, notably issues of accountability, transparency and security.
