Second-generation factory Nongmingong’s use of ICTs in post-Mao China

The main concern of Yang's research project is to understand the way of life and culture forms created/experienced /lived by the supposedly more ICTs-savvy second-generation factory nongmingong in their everyday work and life that, partly as a result of the government-led  'Internet' strategy of economic and social developement, is increasingly mediated by ICTs, in post-Mao China.

Biography

Before joining LSE, Yang obtained an MA in Communication at Renmin University of China in Beijing. During his two years at Renmin University, Yang was also a visiting student in Taiwan for half a year where he studied public policy, history studies and Anthropology. Following this, Yang began work with the United Nations Development Programme in China for half a year, where he came to combine his interest in new ICTs and development.
