Archive of FrontPage 'Navigation' information:
Web users move between pages using hyperlinks. These can be added anywhere in the page, but most websites use a structured navigation system. This is usually a menu allowing users to see the structure of the website they're using as well as navigate to its parts.
There are several navigational components used in pages on the LSE website:
- Global navigation - a standard set of links relevant to the LSE website as a whole and generated by the LSE website template. Global navigation cannot be altered
- 'You are here' - a list of the main headings for each parent page between the current page and 'Welcome to LSE'. Each item on the list is hyperlinked to the page it represents. This navigation trail is prefixed with 'You are here - ' and is generated by the LSE website template using content inserted into the page by the web editor. See Creating 'you are here' navigation trails
- 'What's related' - a list of pages that are related to the current page. Each item is hyperlinked to the page it represents. See Creating 'what's related' links
- 'Page contents' - a contents list for the page generated by the template. Each Heading 3 in the page is reflected in the contents list
- 'Quick links' - one or more main headings for pages that are related to the current page. Each item is hyperlinked to the page it represents. Items are presented as a bulleted list within a box entitled 'Quick links'. This box is inserted into the left column of two column pages, beneath the introductory text. See Creating 'quick links' boxes
- 'Highlights' - one or more main headings for pages that are being promoted on the current page. Each item is hyperlinked to the page it represents. Each item is presented as a row within a box entitled 'Highlights'. This box is inserted into the left column of two column pages, beneath the introductory paragraph. See Creating 'highlights' boxes
- 'Contents' - one or more main headings for pages that are children of the current page. Each item is hyperlinked to the page it represents. Each item is presented as a row within a box entitled 'Contents'. This box is inserted into the right column of two column pages. See Creating 'contents' boxes
