About us

One of the great strengths of the LSE Real Estate Economics and Finance (REEF) programmes is that we bring together staff, mentors and students from different places and backgrounds. The REEF Society wants to build on these links by:

  • Establishing an active alumni network and promoting collaboration
  • Facilitating interactions between members of the society, academics and practitioners, and providing a platform for exchange of ideas
  • Promoting real estate related events hosted by members and LSE

Eligibility

Eligible members include alumni of the MSc Real Estate Economics and Finance, Real Estate Economics and Finance Online Certificate Course, Real Estate Economics and Finance summer school course, academics, professional mentors, advisory board members, and other professionals who have contributed to REEF programmes.

Speakers: Nick Cullen (CEO of BCP Capital), Paul Nearchou (Director and Head of Northern Europe at Deutsche Finance International). 

How do investors reposition hotels during the COVID-19 pandemic? REEF alumni Paul Nearchou and Nick Cullen , who have co-invested in various real estate projects in the UK and Ireland, will share their insights. Based on a case study of a hotel re-positioning project, you will learn about real estate investment and risk management during the pandemic.

Market exuberance and exploiting legal norms in real estate finance – 'twas ever thus?

Speaker: Damian Perry (Consultant to Clifford Chance)

Damian Perry’s talk will focus on market ‘irrationality and exuberance’ leading up to the last financial crisis (2003-8) and the regulatory over-reaction that followed (2008-2015). He will then look at legal structures in the real estate debt markets that have recently emerged which are again at risk of being misused in a rising market.
