About me

Ignacio is LSE Fellow in Real Estate Economics and Finance and Deputy Director of the MSc in Real Estate Economics and Finance.

He joined the department in 2020 to pursue his PhD and began his fellowship in 2024. His research focuses on the intersection of urban regulation, real estate markets, and neighbourhood dynamics. He is particularly interested in causal inference and spatial analysis applied to real estate markets and housing and land policies.

Before joining LSE, Ignacio completed a Master's degree in Urban Planning at NYU, concentrating on how housing policy and real estate can be tools to foster thriving and more equitable cities. Furthermore, he also holds a Master’s degree in Real Estate from Universidad de Chile and a Bachelor's and Professional Degree in Construction engineering.

Over the last decade, he has worked as an independent consultant and engaged in applied research and teaching in real estate economics and finance, housing policy, segregation and poverty, land use regulation, and program evaluation.

Ignacio is currently researching the impacts of land use policies on affordable housing production and population dynamics in metropolitan areas. Additionally, he is studying the effects of the Chilean social unrest on real estate markets and exploring spatial data science applications in informal settlements and city dynamics.
