The DSI is launching an Affiliate Scheme for LSE PhD students. We invite doctoral researchers, from any department, who have an interest in data science and artificial intelligence to join; whether you are interested in applications for your research, are studying the social scientific implications of AI and data or are working on fundamental methodologies.
We want to connect PhD researchers across the School to facilitate:
- social and professional networking opportunities.
- a range of events, including PhD seminars, work-in-progress talks, thematic workshops and careers events.
- access to DSI facilities (meeting rooms, seminar room, and hot-desking workspaces).
- support for work and activities from our events and communications team.
While we have some ideas of the activities that the scheme could entail, we are keen to shape it according to the ideas of our PhD Affiliates.
The mission of the Data Science Institute (DSI) is to convene, catalyse and communicate activity in data science and AI across LSE. It is an interdisciplinary institute working alongside academic departments and research centres to foster research, education and engagement in the study of data science and AI through a social science lens.
We currently connect LSE faculty working in these areas through our Faculty Affiliate Scheme, a key feature of which is the wide range of departments represented. We hope to achieve this same breadth with our PhD Affiliate scheme.
If you are interested in joining, please come to our launch event at the DSI (first floor, Columbia House) on Thursday 28 November, 12.00pm to 1.30pm. Lunch will be provided.
This will be an opportunity for you to find out about the DSI and our thinking around the PhD Affiliate scheme, to meet other researchers and, importantly, to tell us how the scheme can help and support you.
