Dr Jan Kleinheisterkamp is Associate Professor of Law at the LSE Law School, where his research and teaching focuses on contracts, international transactions, international arbitration, investment treaty law, conflict of laws and comparative law.
Prior to joining LSE in 2008, Jan was an assistant professor at the HEC School of Management, Paris (2004-2008), and before that a research fellow at the Max-Planck-Institute for Comparative and Private International Law, Hamburg (1998-2004). He is admitted to legal practice in Germany and obtained his PhD from the University of Hamburg in 2004.
Jan has advised the European Parliament on several occasions on the intersection between investment treaty law and EU law as well as the UK Government on matters of negotiating dispute resolution mechanisms with the EU in the context of Brexit. He is a member of the Governing Body for Dispute Resolution Services of the International Chamber of Commerce and regularly acts as an arbitrator and expert in commercial disputes. He works and publishes in English, German, French, Spanish and Portuguese.
