LSE students visit Lloyds Banking Group

To support LSE students as they plan their careers in the fields of data and technology, the Data Science Institute (DSI) organises regular student field trips to industry leaders.

These trips represent an invaluable opportunity for students to get first-hand experience of what it is like to work in these organisations and to gain access to the advice and insights of those that have made the transition into industry. This is especially true in the fast developing technology sector, with the speed of change leading students to report that they feel unsure about the roles available and the skills required to secure one of these positions.

On Thursday 19 January 2023, Lloyds Banking Group generously hosted a group of around 15 students from Departments across LSE. The schedule of the day was designed with the interdisciplinary background of the group in mind, as students participated in a wide range of in-person activities.

Chapter Lead, Data Science & Ethical AI at Lloyds Banking Group Alice Genevois said, "All the Lloyds colleagues had a good day at the LSE visit to our office last week and were impressed by the attention and questions asked by the students. We hope the day inspired them to work in the data science field and to consider ethics as an integral part of any modelling project. We look forward to working with LSE in the future."

Students were pleased to be able to engage with senior members of the Data Science Centre of Excellence, which enabled students to picture different potential careers that their degree could lead them into. Reflecting on the event, Department of Health Policy student Muhammad said, "The DSI is the only department that organises such excellent student visits. The visit has really helped me get a feel of work in the real world".

The DSI would like to thank Lloyds Banking Group for agreeing to host this visit.
