Joachim Nagel, president of the Deutsche Bundesbank, delivers a lecture with the London School of Economics and the Official Monetary and Financial Institutions Forum (OMFIF), on the natural rate of interest, its measurement, how it evolved over time, the uncertainty around its current level, and the implications for policymaking in the coming years.

Meet our speaker

Joachim Nagel is a German economist and has held the title of President of the Deutsche Bundesbank, since January 2022. Previously, he was the Deputy Head of Banking Department at the Bank for International Settlements, a member of the supervisory board of Deutsche Börse AG, a member of the executive council of KfW Group and held other positions at Deutsche Bundesbank. He gained his PhD at the University of Karlsruhe’s Department of Economics and Management.
