Geopolitics in the age of populism: the future of the liberal order

We find ourselves in a moment of geopolitical upheaval and political fragmentation. Will Russia’s invasion of Ukraine renew the commitment to liberal-order building within and among democracies, or fuel further division in the face of competing international and domestic priorities?
We brought together a group of leading scholars, practitioners, and analysts to discuss these and related questions. Panel discussions were organized around the following four key themes: “Russia’s War in Ukraine,and the Future of European Security;” “The Rise of China and its Geopolitical Implications;” “Nationalism, Authoritarianism, and the European Union;” and “Is America Back?”
Towards a New World Order?

The Russian war against Ukraine has shattered what remained of the post-Cold War order. The challenge is to understand what will take its place. How can we characterize today’s geopolitical landscape?
This conference brought together a group of leading scholars, practitioners, and analysts to discuss these and related questions. Panel discussions were organized around the following four key themes: “The Emerging Global Landscape”, “Has De-Globalization Gone too Far?”, “Whither Global Governance?”, and “Is there a Russia-Ukraine Endgame?”.
