LSE Library

Founded in 1896, the British Library of Political and Economic Science is the major international library of the social sciences. The Library offers long opening hours, excellent resources and a superb study environment for students.

As an LSE student, the Library will offer you a range of facilities and support:

• over 4 million printed items, 130,000 ebooks and more than 120,000 ejournals
• over 2,000 seats, with group and silent study zones
• over 500 networked PCs, more than 35 iMacs and over 100 MacBook Airs (iRoam)
• training sessions and Academic Support Librarians for each academic department
• regular exhibitions showcasing the Library’s unique collections

LSE students also have access to a number of other academic libraries in Greater London and nationwide.

LSE LIFE

LSE LIFE is an academic, personal and professional development centre for undergraduate and taught master's students.

Located on the ground floor of the Library, its team is on hand for one-to-one advice and to help you make the most of your time at LSE. It is also a great place to study, either on your own or with your peers, and to meet students from across the school.

PhD Academy

The PhD Academy has a common room, teaching room and advice hub for PhD students to meet, access specialist centralised services and take part in interdisciplinary events, training and other development activities. We host weekly surgeries from LSE Careers, the Financial Support Office (FSO), International Student Visa and Advice Team, the Language Centre and Methodology for PhD Students.

Language Centre

The Language Centre specialises in offering modern language courses targeted to the needs of students and practitioners in the social sciences. Lecturers relate their own expertise in one or more of LSE's subject specialisms to the teaching of languages for specific purposes.

As an LSE student, you can make use of a range of IT resources, facilties and technology, through Information Management and Technology.

Need help? Don't worry - there are people to ask, as well as workshops so you can ensure you're making the most of the technology available.

Based right in the centre of campus and home to many facilities, the Saw Swee Hock Student Centre is a hub of student life at LSE. 

It is the home of the LSE Students' Union (LSESU); cafés, the student pub and a nightclub; study spaces; a gym and exercise studio; a roof terrace; and student-focused services like the Residential Services Office and LSE Careers.

As well as providing great resources for students, it is an excellent addition to the LSE campus as an award-winning example of architecture and sustainability.

There are a range of sports clubs and societies to get involved in during your time at LSE, from Athletics, Capoeira and Fustal, to Rowing, Squash, Yoga and more. Whether you’re a beginner or you want to compete in one of LSESU’s teams, the sports societies cater for every level.

There is a state of the art gym on campus which offers exercise equipment and classes. In addition, there is a badminton court in the Old Building, and netball and tennis courts are available nearby in Lincoln's Inn Fields. 

LSE also has its own sportsground in New Malden, just a short train ride away. The Berrylands sportsground provides for a variety of outdoor sports such as football, cricket, netball and rugby.

The Faith Centre is home to the LSE's diverse religious activities, transformational interfaith leadership programmes and a space for prayer, worship and reflection for all staff and students.

St Philips Medical Centre

The Medical Centre, based in Tower One, provides NHS Primary Care services to registered patients.

Sardinia House Dental Practice

Sardinia House Dental Practice offers discounted private dental services to LSE students.

Nursery

The LSE Nursery is currently closed, while we explore long-term childcare solutions that suit the changing needs of our community as the way we work and study evolves. 

In the meantime, we will continue to provide access to local, quality childcare through an interim partnership scheme with three nurseries near to LSE’s campus. 

There are plenty of food and drink outlets on campus, from cafés and restaurants to pubs and bars, with all sorts of tastes, dietary needs and budgets being catered for.

LSE takes its students’ safety very seriously. London carries the risks associated with urban areas, for example pickpocketing in busy crowds - but if sensible precautions are taken, students are likely to have a crime-free time in London.

EducationUK from the British Council has lots of advice about safety. LSE’s campus security team makes sure that students are aware of ways to stay safe, and how to protect belongings like laptops and bicycles.
