About me

Qilyu Hong joined the Department of Sociology as an LSE Fellow in Quantitative Social Research Methods in September 2023. She holds an undergraduate degree in Economics, a master’s degree in education from University College London, and a PhD in the Sociology of Education from the University of Cambridge. Her research and teaching are centred around the application of quantitative methods to analyse large-scale survey datasets, focusing on pertinent issues within sociology and education.

Qilyu investigates themes such as social inequality, social mobility, widening participation in education, and returns to education. Her work delves into understanding the dynamics of these phenomena through rigorous statistical analysis, aiming to provide insights that contribute to both academic discourse and practical policymaking in these fields.

Teaching and PhD supervision

Qilyu teaches the undergraduate core course Data in Society: Researching Social Life and the master's course Quantitative Social Research Methods. Additionally, she supervises undergraduate and master's dissertations.
