Journeys Through Social Policy

Photography competition for Department of Social Policy Students, Staff and Alumni 

We are inviting our students, staff and alumni to submit photography that explores personal, societal, or historical journeys within the field of Social Policy. Winning entries will be professionally produced and mounted on the walls in the Department of Social Policy!

Questions to Consider: 

What does Social Policy mean to you? 

How has it shaped your experiences? 

What impact does Social Policy have on communities and individuals? 


Submission Guidelines: 

✅ Three submissions per person maximum.

✅ Formats accepted: Photography only (high-resolution images). 

✅ Minimum 300 DPI for prints. 

✅ JPEG or PNG formats are preferred. 

✅ Ensure the image is not upscaled artificially (which can cause blurriness). 

✅ A brief caption (max 100 words). 

Please note: If you are one of our alumni, you will need to use your LSE alumni email address to submit an entry.


Judging: 

  • All submissions will be judged by a panel drawn from across the department.
  • Judges will only see the submission and caption—personal details will remain anonymous.

FAQs

Am I eligible to take part?

If you are an Undergraduate, Postgraduate or MPhil/PhD student in the Department of Social Policy you are eligible to participate in the competition.

Department of Social Policy staff and alumni are also eligible. If you are one of our alumni, you will need to use your LSE alumni email address to submit an entry.


How do I submit an entry?

Please use the online form to submit your entry and include the following essential info:

  • A brief caption no longer than 100 words in length
  • Your affiliation to the Department

How many entries can I submit?

We will accept up to three submissions per person. 


 

When is the deadline for submission?

The deadline is Friday 28 March 2025, 5pm.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to accept any submissions after this time. 


 

When will the winners be announced?

The winners will be announced early in the Spring Term.


 

Will the submissions be displayed anywhere?

Yes, selected images will be displayed in our department corridors, common rooms and meeting rooms, we will be sharing news and images of the winning entries in our official Department communications and social media accounts.


Competition Terms and Conditions

  • The competition ends at 5pm on the 28 March. Late entries will not be accepted.
  • LSE accepts no responsibility for incomplete, ineligible, or corrupted entries.
  • This competition is open to Department of Social Policy students, staff and alumni.
  • Submissions must be original work, and the entrant must own the copyright.
  • By submitting an image, entrants grant LSE a perpetual, royalty-free, non-exclusive license to use the image for promotional purposes while retaining copyright.
  • Winners agree to the use of their name and image in publicity materials. Personal data will be handled in accordance with UK data protection laws.
  • By submitting an image, entrants agree to the LSE website’s Terms of Use.
