About me

Dr Mobarak Hossain is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Policy. His research interests include comparative education policies and institutions, inequalities, sociology of education, and cross-border policy diffusion, with a particular (but not exclusive) focus on emerging and developing economies. He uses quantitative methods to address these substantive research interests.

Before joining the LSE, he was a Postdoctoral Prize Research Fellow at Nuffield College, University of Oxford, where he also obtained his DPhil (PhD) in 2022.

His current research focuses on global trends in intergenerational educational mobility, determinants of between and within-school inequalities, and the relationship between school choice and learning achievement. He also pursues an active interest in how international organisations diffuse educational reforms across low- and middle-income countries.
