Nationality: German

Can you tell us about your background and why you chose to study the MPA-DSPP programme at SPP?

I have a background in economics and management, with a strong interest in quantitative methods like econometrics and statistics. I've worked in strategy consulting and policy advisory, focusing on data analytics and policy evaluation. I chose the MPA-DSPP programme to gain a robust methodological skillset in data science while broadening my economic policy understanding. I wanted to study at the LSE specifically due to the diverse student cohort as well as the various extracurricular opportunities it offers.

What are the highlights from Welcome and your first few weeks?
The Bootcamp during Welcome was an intense but rewarding experience, with a steep learning curve that quickly built our proficiency in Python. One of my favourite moments, though, was the dinner at a traditional British pub with Alexander Evans and Casey Kearney. Sharing stories and research interests over delicious food and a glass of wine made it a truly memorable way to bond with others in the programme.

What has been a key learning for you so far?

While I’ve thoroughly enjoyed learning new concepts in data science and other courses, the key learning for me so far has come from discussions with my course mates. Talking with my peers and hearing about their experiences from different countries, as well as the creative solutions they come up with for both practical and theoretical problems, has been really eye-opening.

What are you most looking forward to?

I am most looking forward to the Capstone project in the second year, where I’m excited to apply my expertise and the skills I’ve developed to solve a real-world problem for a client, working in a team and learning from both my teammates and the people at the client organization.

What are you hoping to achieve/what are your main objectives whilst you at LSE SPP?

I’m hoping to equip myself with the tools necessary for a successful career in data-driven policy analysis and decision-making. My main objective at SPP is to absorb as much knowledge as possible and make the most of LSE’s resources, while also learning from the diverse and talented people around me.

What are your hopes/plans for your future after graduation?

I am currently evaluating my options for after graduation. I am interested in a range of sectors, including finance, technology, and economic policy, which will allow me to maintain flexibility in my career path. What matters most to me is not only applying the knowledge I have gained but also continuing to be challenged by working on complex issues that intersect with multiple factors, similar to the experience I have at LSE. Ultimately, I aim to pursue a role where I can achieve a tangible, meaningful impact.

Can you describe your SPP experience so far in 3 words?

Challenging. Dynamic. Enriching.
