About me

Tanvi is a research fellow at the LSE Fudan Global Public Policy Hub. Her research, primarily qualitative, has focused on cities, climate governance and justice in the Global South. As a researcher from the Global South, she hopes to find comparisons between diverse geographies and develop urban climate governance frameworks appropriate for the Global South.

Her PhD in Political Science (Heidelberg University) involved a comparative and longitudinal analysis of two municipal governments in India with respect to water supply management and climate action policymaking.

At LSE she intends to expand her work on the role of institutions and policymaking processes to better understand urban climate governance in cities of the Global South. She will also explore the influence of China in shaping urban climate policies in the Global South.

Prior to joining LSE, Tanvi was a post-doctoral fellow at KCL where she worked with the UKRI GCRF funded project, Tomorrow’s Cities (a pro-poor and urban risk hub working in the Global South). Earlier, as part of the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS), Bangalore, she worked on evaluating the impacts of urbanization and climate change on marginalised and vulnerable communities, particularly migrants and informal settlement dwellers.

Her impact-oriented research is communicated via journal articles, working papers & reports, and public-facing pieces such as opinion editorials, blogs and policy briefs.

She has academic and non-academic teaching experience and taught school and university students, practitioners and government officials. She has taught a range of topics including qualitative research methods, urban water management & sustainability, the political economy of south Asia, climate politics and the global south, urban climate governance in the global south and risk communication agreement.
