We are delighted to announce that Professor Alexander Evans has joined the School of Public Policy at the LSE, as Professor in Practice.

Professor Evans is currently the Strategy Director at the UK Cabinet Office. A member of the diplomatic service, he has been Deputy and Acting High Commissioner to India and (briefly) Pakistan, an adviser to the UK Prime Minister, and Director Cyber at the Foreign Office. In New York, he led the UN expert mission on Daesh, Al Qaida and the Taliban, and worked for the US Department of State as a senior adviser to the late Ambassador Richard Holbrooke.

He has previously held academic positions at Yale and Nuffield College Oxford and was the Henry Kissinger Chair in Foreign Policy at Congress. He has worked in think-tanks in Washington DC, New York and London, published in academic and policy journals, and is a past BBC and CNN commentator. He is an LSE graduate (BSc International Relations, 1995) and is a visiting senior fellow at LSE IDEAS.

Professor Evans will teach two brand-new graduate courses in the School of Public Policy: Anticipatory Policy-Making and Technology, Data Science and Policy.

Welcoming the appointment, the Dean of the School of Public Policy, Professor Andrés Velasco, commented that: “Professor Evans will be an enormous asset to the School of Public Policy, and I’m delighted that we have been able to attract a candidate of his calibre. He will bring deep insight into new areas of policy, particularly in his applied knowledge of cyber policy, and his deep understanding of geopolitics and development in South Asia.”

Professor Alexander Evans commented: “LSE is the most global of universities – and the School of Public Policy is at the forefront of educating the next generation of public service leaders. I am hugely looking forward to joining a talented group of colleagues and students, teaching and contributing to SPP’s future.”

The appointment will commence on 1st August 2022.
