Yomna Gaafar, Economic Analyst of Fiscal Affairs Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), has been recognised for her work in helping governments and policymakers use digital tools to develop their economies and promote the prosperity of the poor and marginalized.
In her current role with the IMF, she participates in the development of a VAT database, poised for an upcoming book. She is also involved in analysis aimed at pinpointing fiscal support channelled towards the agriculture sector via the tax apparatus—a domain linked to elevated greenhouse gas emissions.
Yomna noted how her studies at LSE School of Public Policy has impacted her career journey:
“My time at the LSE School of Public Policy was indeed transformative. The diverse environment and the array of rigorous academic opportunities, along with invaluable interactions with thought leaders in various disciplines, have been fundamental in shaping my approach to data-driven and evidence-based policymaking.”
"The school's emphasis on rigorous data methodologies and econometric techniques has become a cornerstone of my professional ethos, which is vital in today’s dynamic policy landscape. The experiences I had at LSE, particularly where the emphasis is placed on the convergence of data, technology, and policy, have been pivotal in both my career progression and in shaping my vision for transformative public and economic policy.”
