The School of Public Policy regularly holds an annual Alumni Symposium for, and in partnership with, our alumni community. These events are half-days of include a series of panels, discussion groups, professional workshops, and networking opportunities all centred around a particular theme – focussing on a particular policy issue which is of interest to our alumni.
We have been delighted to host some fantastic speakers at our symposiaums: we have ’ve heard from academic experts both from LSE and further afield, as well as SPP alumni experts with real-world experience in a wonderful a range of policy topics. These events are a great opportunity for alumni to hear from those within their community, and to continue expanding their policy knowledge long after graduation.
The Year of Elections: Public Policy in the Face of Changing Governments

To celebrate twenty years of the MPA programme, and ten years of the EMPA programme, we examined 2024’s ground-breaking year of elections around the world and its impact on public policy professionals. Alumni heard from academic experts in UK, US and Indian elections; alumni government officials; and heard a keynote speech on the history of the MPA from emeritus professor Patrick Dunleavy.

From Making Policy to Crafting it: Becoming Leaders in the Public Policy Arena

In 2023 we examined how to become a leader in public policy: how to best shape a career journey and transition from beginning and mid-level roles to senior and executive positions in the sector. As part of this eventevent, we heard from alumni working as CEOs and company founders, directors at think-tanks, and directors in government, as well as from some of our leading academics and LSE Career Consultants.
