This course is available on the MSc in Operations Research & Analytics. This course is not available as an outside option.

Cannot be taken with MA426 Dissertation in Operations Research & Analytics.

Course content

The student will carry out and report upon a substantial practical piece of work in Operational Research and Analytics. This may include elements of data science, machine learning, AI and human factors. The project is typically a consulting-like placement with an industry, government, or non-profit partner.

The project is normally provided by the course team. Project allocation is via formal interviews with the client a student has applied for.

A project may be suggested by the student, subject to approval by the MA425 convenor.

Teaching

Teaching for this course is delivered through seminars totalling a minimum of 16.5 hours across the year. 

Formative coursework

Each student will be assigned an LSE project supervisor who will monitor their progress on a continuing basis and give tutorial advice as required.

Indicative reading

Detailed suggestions for reading will be provided in the course of supervision.

Assessment

Project (100%).

Assessment is based on a combination of the project report, reflective report, project presentation, and CV writing.

The student is expected to work on this full time from early June to end of August possibly at the client site. The report is due on a date around the end of August.
