This course is compulsory on the MSc in Culture and Conflict in a Global Europe and MSc in Culture and Conflict in a Global Europe (LSE & Sciences Po). This course is available on the MSc in European and International Public Policy, MSc in European and International Public Policy (LSE and Bocconi), MSc in European and International Public Policy (LSE and Sciences Po), MSc in International Migration and Public Policy, MSc in International Migration and Public Policy (LSE and Sciences Po), MSc in Political Economy of Europe, MSc in Political Economy of Europe (LSE and Fudan) and MSc in Political Economy of Europe (LSE and Sciences Po). Course content
This series of lectures and workshops offers an introduction to research methods and design for students on the MSc Culture and Conflict in a Global Europe programmes within the European Institute. Themes discussed include: methods in the social sciences and in the humanities; common problems of research design; advice on writing dissertations; advice on critical reading and interpretation of texts; an overview of comparative method and case-study research; and an introduction to discourse analysis and qualitative coding. Each session will consist of lecture elements followed by group work in which students with their different backgrounds will work together to solve specific problems of research design.
Teaching
This course is delivered via online and/or in-person teaching totalling a minimum of 10 hours spread across the Autumn Term. This course includes a reading week in Week 6 of the Autumn Term.
