This course is compulsory on the BA in Anthropology and Law and LLB in Laws. This course is available on the BSc in Accounting and Finance. This course is available as an outside option to students on other programmes where regulations permit and to General Course students.

Introduction to the law of contract, including formation of contracts, express and implied terms, misrepresentation, exclusion clauses, remedies for breach of contract. Introduction to the principles of the law of restitution. Introduction to the law of torts: negligence and other specific torts, causation, defences, remedies for torts.

This course will have a minimum of two hours of teaching content each week in Michaelmas Term and Lent Term in the form of an online lecture (every week) and one hour class (week 2 onwards). This course includes a reading week in Weeks 6 of Michaelmas Term and Lent Term.

The lectures will be given by a number of different teachers. The basic work is done through the classes, and the lectures are designed to introduce the topics on the syllabus.

Students will be expected to produce up to 4 assignments through the year, set and marked by their class teacher.

A general reading list will be issued at the commencement of each term. Students should follow the advice of theircourse convenor as to the textbooks to be read.

Exam (100%, duration: 3 hours, reading time: 15 minutes) in the summer exam period.
