This course is available on the MSc in EU Politics, MSc in EU Politics (LSE and Sciences Po), MSc in International Affairs (LSE and Peking University), MSc in International Relations, MSc in International Relations (LSE and Sciences Po), MSc in International Relations (Research), MSc in International Relations Theory, MSc in Social Policy (European and Comparative Social Policy) and MSc in Theory and History of International Relations. This course is available with permission as an outside option to students on other programmes where regulations permit.

The course places the development of EU policy-making in its international context. It examines the impact of the external environment on the evolution of common policies and the external impact of EU policies. Topics covered include: the single market; social policy; finance and Economic and Monetary Union; trade policy; foreign and security policy; environmental policy; police cooperation and counter-terrorism; immigration and asylum policy; enlargement and neighbourhood policy.

10 hours of lectures and 15 hours of seminars in the LT. 1 hour of lectures in the ST.

Seminar presentations are allocated at the first meeting of the seminar. Two 2,000-word essays are set and marked by the seminar teacher.
