This course is available on the MPA in European Public and Economic Policy, MPA in International Development, MPA in Public and Economic Policy, MPA in Public and Social Policy, MSc in African Development, MSc in Development Management, MSc in Development Studies, MSc in Management and Strategy, MSc in Public Administration and Government (LSE and Peking University), MSc in Public Policy and Administration and MSc in Regulation. This course is available with permission as an outside option to students on other programmes where regulations permit.
Other postgraduates require permission of teachers responsible.
Course content
The course offers an intensive introduction into key areas of public management with reference to both developed and lesser developed world contexts. Topics include administrative doctrine, implementation, organizational change and inertia, capacity building, performance-management, leadership, institution creation, transparency and risk management. Public management is treated as an interdisciplinary field of study, with a particular emphasis on the administrative practices and change as well as the critical analysis of practical arguments about Public Management
Teaching
10 hours of lectures and 15 hours of seminars in the MT.

Formative coursework
Students are expected to complete two formative essays.

Assessment
Essay (100%, 3000 words).
Students are required to answer one question from a selection of three. Week 11 in MT will be used for individual advice sessions.
