Availability
This course is compulsory on the BSc in Management. This course is available as an outside option to students on other programmes where regulations permit. This course is not available to General Course students.
This course cannot be taken with MG203.
Course content
This course introduces students to social science theories and research related to understanding employee attitudes and behaviour. Each week focuses on a different topic investigating individual, group, and organisational issues. Weekly topics include: personality, motivation, emotions, perception and decision making, values, teams, mentorship, justice, the work-life interface, and culture and creativity.
Teaching
15 hours of lectures and 9 hours of classes in the MT. 1 hour and 30 minutes of lectures and 1 hour of classes in the ST.
Formative coursework
Students will be expected to produce 1 essay of 1,500 words in the MT.
Indicative reading
The course relies on journal articles (for example, Journal of Applied Psychology, Journal of Organizational Behavior. A complete reading list will be provided at the start of the course. Sample texts include the following: Colquitt, J.A., LePine, J.A., & Wesson, M.J. (2009) Organizational Behavior: Improving Performance and Commitment in the Workplace (International edition). New York: McGraw-Hill and Nelson, D.L. & Quick, J.C. (2013) ORGB3. Cengage Learning.
Assessment
Exam (75%, duration: 2 hours) in the main exam period.
Essay (25%, 1500 words) in the LT.
