This course is available on the MPhil/ PhD in Management, MSc in International Employment Relations and Human Resource Management and MSc in Management and Human Resources. This course is not available as an outside option.
Pre-requisites
None. But students who have an undergraduate degree in law are advised to choose the specialist employment law options available to management students.
Course content
Human resource management problems and issues relating to the employment contract and legislation on discipline and dismissal, redundancy, mergers and sub-contracting, sex, race, age, disability and other types of discrimination, work-life balance, information and consultation, health and safety, union recognition and the right to strike. The focus is on UK and EU law, but other countries, including the USA, are used for comparative purposes.
Teaching
15 hours of lectures and 15 hours of seminars in the LT. 3 hours of seminars in the ST.
Formative coursework
As well as seminar presentations and case studies, students will be expected to submit a 2,000 word essay and will receive feedback within two weeks
