Availability

This course is available on the BSc in Business Mathematics and Statistics, BSc in Management and BSc in Statistics with Finance. This course is available with permission as an outside option to students on other programmes where regulations permit and to General Course students.

Course content

The course aims to apply social science theory to the analysis of the conduct and management of transnational activities; to critically appraise concepts such as globalisation, regionalisation, national competitiveness, transnationality of firms, etc. in the context of international management structures and processes; to delineate the international political, economic, social and legal structures and environments within which the activity of management takes place. The topics to be covered will include: the nature of the contemporary global political economy; the globalisation of business, finance and trade in goods and services; Global competition; the transnational corporation in the global economy; the tension between globalisation and regionalisation; the international trading order; the international monetary regime; the impact of culture on global business; the changing position of the state in the global economy; the new diplomacy of states and firms.

Teaching

10 hours of lectures and 10 hours of classes in the MT. 1 hour of lectures in the ST.

Formative coursework

Students are expected to produce one piece of written work and do the weekly class exercises.
