This course is available on the BA in Geography, BSc in Environment and Development and BSc in Geography with Economics. This course is available as an outside option to students on other programmes where regulations permit and to General Course students.

This course provides an introduction to society, economy and polity of contemporary Europe.
The main focus is upon the economic, social and political challenges the EU as a whole, and individual nation states within Europe, are facing. These include the issues of integration, competitiveness, cohesion, enlargement, ageing, migration, employment trends, gender divisions and social polarization and the emergence of regionalism and nationalism. Particular stress is laid upon the geographical constitution of these themes, including regional issues.

20 hours of lectures and 10 hours of classes in the MT. 18 hours of lectures and 10 hours of classes in the LT. 3 hours of lectures in the ST.

Students will be expected to produce a minimum of two class essays during the year and will also be expected to give class papers.
