Scheme for the Award of a Taught Masters Degree for students entering from 2008/09: Sub-Board 'local rules'

Please read the following local rules in conjunction with the relevant scheme paragraph in the Classification Scheme for this programme:

These Exam Sub-Board 'local rules' apply to the following programmes:
MSc Anthropology and Development
MSc Anthropology and Development Management
MSc China in Comparative Perspective
MSc Law, Anthropology and Society
MSc Religion in the Contemporary World
MSc Social Anthropology
MSc Social Anthropology (Research)
MSc Social Anthropology (Learning and Cognition)
(formerly MSc Psychological Anthropology and MSc Anthropology of Learning and Cognition)

For students starting in or after 2014/15:

1.

Course critical to assessment:
No.

2.

Distinction/Merit borderline (scheme paragraph 3.3.2):
3.3.2 (c) marks of a Distinction grade in courses to the value of 2.5 units and a mark of a Merit grade in a course of 0.5 unit value will obtain an overall classification of a Distinction;

3.3.2 (d) marks of a Distinction grade in courses to the value of 2.0 units and marks of a Merit grade of at least 65 in courses to the value of 2.0 units; OR,

marks of a Distinction grade in courses to the value of 2.0 units, marks of a Merit grade in courses to the value of 2.0 units, and an overall aggregate mark of at least 275 will obtain an overall classification of a Distinction.

Merit/Pass borderline (scheme paragraph 3.3.4):
3.3.4 (h) marks of a Merit grade in courses to the value of 2.5 units will obtain an overall classification of a Merit;

3.3.4 (i) marks of a Distinction grade in courses to the value of 1.0 unit, marks of a Merit grade in courses to the value of 1.0 unit, and marks of a Pass grade of at least 55 to the value of 2.0 units will obtain an overall classification of Merit.

 

 

 

For students starting in 2013/14:

Course critical to assessment: No.

2.

Distinction/Merit borderline (scheme paragraph 5.3.2 of classification scheme published in 2013/14): For a Distinction to be awarded, students much achieve a minimum of 2.0 units at Distinction (marks of 70 or above) and 2.0 units at Merit (marks of 65 or above).

Merit/Pass borderline (scheme paragraph 5.3.4 of classification scheme published in 2013/14): For a Merit to be awarded, students must achieve a minimum of 1.0 unit at Distinction (a mark of 70 or above), 1.0 at Merit (a mark of 65 or above) and 2.0 units at Pass (marks of
55 or above).
