Nadia Blackshaw (LSE): ‘Everett+: expanding the Everettian Picture’

2 December, 3:00 pm4:30 pm

There will be tea starting 2:30pm.

Abstract:

It is often claimed that Everettian Quantum Mechanics has the advantage of taking the physics seriously as is. By not adding to standard quantum theory, the argument for many worlds is thought to be more palatable and the interpretation sticks closer to actual science. But do Everettians truly not add anything? And is this claim the basis for any positive arguments for Everettian Quantum Mechanics? This talk will explore what EQM comprises of and whether there might be benefits, especially to the issue of probability, with a more relaxed, Everett+, approach.

Nadia Blackshaw is currently an LSE Fellow in Philosophy of Science and Philosophy of Physics. Her main area of research is the philosophy of physics with a focus on foundations of quantum theory and Everettian Quantum Mechanics. She also researches more general philosophy of science and topics in the philosophy of mind.

This event will take place in person on LSE’s campus. However, those unable to attend in person will have the option of taking part online.

To join online just follow these instructions:

Please note that these events are routinely recorded, with the edited footage being made publicly available on our website and YouTube channel.
