There are four bursary places available to students. The bursary covers all expenses for the weekend; room & board, & transport to and from Cumberland Lodge.
To be considered, students must fill out this form by 6pm on Friday, 31 October 2023.
Successful applicants will be notified a week after the deadline. Other applicants should consider their application unsuccessful if they are not contacted by 6pm on Friday, 20 October 2023.
Blog Post Competition
This year’s weekend is all about ‘Peace’ and the teacher responsible will be Prof Jonathan Birch. For the first time ever, we will be running a blog post competition ahead of the weekend.
We want to hear your thoughts on the theme of peace. To enter the competition, send a blog post of 1000 words or fewer to Jonathan Birch (j.birch2@lse.ac.uk) and to Martha Ojo (m.ojo@lse.ac.uk) by 5pm on 31 October 2023
The blog post must address the theme of peace. Your entry could (for example) address one of the following questions:
- What is peace?
- What is pacifism and is it justified?
- What role can philosophy play in promoting peace?
Or it might take some particular philosopher and reflect on the relevance of their views on peace for the present day.
Or it might do something completely unexpected!
If you want to see what philosophers have been saying recently about peace, this is quite a good reference point: https://philpapers.org/browse/peace-and-nonviolence
The winning post will be published on the LSE Philosophy Blog and the winning author will receive a full refund of the cost of their Cumberland Lodge ticket. The winning author will also be invited to present their idea during the weekend.
We will allow co-authored entries but may have to split the prize between the authors, rather than awarding more than one prize.
We are looking forward to seeing your entries!
Questions?
We will run an information session on Friday, 29 September, 2pm – 3pm, to answer any questions you may have about the weekend. A link to this information session with be sent to all students via email before the date.
In case you have any questions, please get in touch with our event’s organiser at m.ojo@lse.ac.uk
We are looking forward to meeting you at Cumberland Lodge!
