Research
Fellowships (Post-Doctoral) 2 Years
The European
Media, Technology and Everyday Life Network
(EMTEL), funded under the European Commission
program "Human Potential: Research
Training Networks" is seeking to appoint
7 Post Doctoral Fellows, 1 in each of the
Departments, Institutes or Programmes within
the Network.
EMTEL is a
research and training network of European
social scientists investigating the social
dimensions of the Information Society in
Europe. It includes 7 partners in 6
different countries (Ireland, the
Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Norway, the UK). Each
contributing partner is responsible for a
discrete research project.
Appointment
will be for two years beginning between
November,1 2000 and January,1 2001.
Candidates
should have a Ph.D. in an appropriate social
science discipline. Knowledge of the language
of the host country will be a distinct
advantage.
This appointment
is subject to EC regulations concerning
nationality and standing. This requires
that appointments to the Network are
restricted to citizens of the EU, but also
that appointments can only be made from among
citizens of countries other than that of the
appointing center, i.e. UK citizens can apply
for any Fellowship except that offered at the
LSE. In addition, candidates must not have
spent more than 12 months in the 24 months
before their appointment in the host country.
According to EU regulations, applicants
should not be more than 35 years old at the
time of the appointment; this threshold can
be extended in the case of compulsory
military service, parental child care or
education related motivations.
