A student special interest group (SIG) has been set up to support students on studying on the MSc Human Resources and Organisations (HRO) programme.

This group focuses on artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced human resource management (HRM) technology. It is designed for students undertaking their dissertation in this area and for those seeking to learn more about the topic and implications for their HR practice.

AI, people analytics and advanced technologies in HRM are emerging areas of HR practice and academic enquiry. This SIG aims to connect LSE academics researching in this area with HRO students. In addition, a range of thought leaders, AI and advanced HRM technology companies and in-house specialists will also be connected to students to support them in their research as they develop their thinking and practice in this area.

The SIG held its first event on Tuesday 11 February 2020, with over 20 HRO students in attendance. Megan Butler, Senior Research Advisor in Data, Technology and AI at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), shared her experiences of practicing and researching in AI and advanced HRM technology. The event allowed students to reflect on their own research questions and forthcoming research journey.

Upcoming events will be hosted with AI and advanced HRM technology specialists and will explore the realities and challenges associated with designing, embedding and creating meaningful outcomes from this type of technology.

The students are also supported through a dedicated online learning space and encouraged to share their ideas and take the lead in identifying speakers and events that they would find most useful.

This group complements wider Departmental research activity in this area including the newly formed Technology and People (TAP) research group that is feeding into a School-wide data sciences initiative.
