Congratulations to Dr Hyun-Jung Lee, Associate Professor of Organisational Behaviour and Cross-Cultural Management, who was awarded the prestigious Carolyn B. Dexter Award for her paper 'The Unexpected Upside of High Language Diversity' at this year’s Academy of Management Conference. The paper, co-authored with Dr Mai Al-Naemi and Professor Carol Reade, who shared the award with Dr Lee, was recognised for best internationalising the Academy of Management.

This is the second consecutive year a member of the Department of Management has won the Carolyn B. Dexter Award, after Dr Niranjan Janardhanan, Assistant Professor of Management, and Muhammad Aqeel Awan, PhD Candidate in Organisational Behaviour, won the award in 2023 with their paper on work engagement and multiple work identities.

Dr Lee’s research focuses on the similarities and differences of sociocultural categories. Upon receiving the award, she said she was "thrilled and humbled by the decision", and "would like to thank the LSE Department of Management for supporting the research all the way".

Dr Al-Naemi, Assistant Professor of Management at Qatar University, received her PhD in Management: Employment Relations & Organisational Behaviour from LSE in 2020. Accepting the award, Dr Al-Naemi said she was "very humbled and deeply grateful for the recognition of our research".

Professor Carol Reade, Professor in the School of Global Innovation & Leadership and Graduate School of Business at San Jose State University, also studied for her PhD at LSE and will be returning for Autumn Term 2024 as a Visiting Professor in the Department of Management. After receiving the award, Professor Reade said it was an "incredible honour", and praised her co-authors, saying that "working on this project with my really superb colleagues has been such an enriching experience".

The Carolyn B. Dexter Award is presented annually at the Academy of Management annual meeting. This year’s conference took place on 9 -13 August, in Chicago, USA.
