Dr Bethania Antunes, Associate Professorial Lecturer in Management, has been awarded funding by the British Academy/Leverhulme Small Research Grants to conduct research on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Corporate Volunteering programmes.
Dr Antunes’ research project aims to investigate the expansion of CSR activities in the UK through the lens of employee volunteering (EV) programmes that extend corporate activity to the sphere framed as ‘social’ and require an active engagement of the employees in comparison to other CSR strategies.
Dr Antunes commented: "This funding will allow us to gain a comprehensive understanding of the current state of Employee Volunteering programmes in the UK, both from the employer and employee perspectives. We are looking forward to engaging with organisations and relevant stakeholders in this project".
As Co-Investigator of the research project, Dr Antunes is joined by Principal Investigator, Dr Cécile Guillaume, Reader in Organisation Studies and Director of Internationalisation at Surrey Business School.
The full title of their research is: ‘Is CSR achieved at the expense of employee engagement? Insights into the development of Employee Volunteering programmes in the UK.’
The grant applications are assessed on the quality and interest of the research proposal; the applicant’s ability to succeed based on their past track record; the feasibility of the methodology; the feasibility of the timescale; and the appropriateness of costs requested.
