The Department of Management is delighted to share that Saul Estrin, Emeritus Professor of Management Economics and Strategy, was elected as a Fellow of the British Academy in the section of Management and Business Studies in July 2023.
The British Academy is the UK’s national academy for the humanities and social sciences, which aims to mobilise these disciplines to ‘understand the world and shape a brighter future’. Scholars who are elected as Fellows of the Academy have 'attained distinction in any of the branches of study which it is the object of the Academy to promote'.
“I feel honoured to be elected to join this select and distinguished group of scholars.”, said Professor Estrin.
Professor Estrin joins LSE’s Professor Susan Marks, Professor of International Law, and Professor Patrick Sturgis, Professor of Quantitative Social Science, who were also elected as Fellows this year.
Welcoming the new Fellows, President of the British Academy and Strategic Director of Innovation at LSE Professor Julia Black said: “It is with great pleasure that we welcome yet another outstanding cohort to the Academy’s Fellowship. The scope of research and expertise on display across our newly elected UK, Corresponding and Honorary Fellows shows the breadth and depth of knowledge and insight held by the British Academy. It is our role to harness this to understand and help shape a better world (…) I wholeheartedly congratulate each of our new Fellows on this achievement and look forward to working together.”
Professor Estrin’s research has focused on the micro-economics of comparative economic systems with interests in state owned firms, labour-managed firms, planning and socialist economies. More recently, he has concentrated on international business strategy issues and entrepreneurship and is the MSc Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship Programme Director for the 2023/24 academic year.
