Wanjiku Kimani, MSc Management and Strategy, 2020
By eliminating the financial strain of funding my studies, my scholarship really allowed me to fully immerse myself in the possibility of pursuing a career change. LSE Generate was very instrumental in giving me the opportunity to engage with the world of entrepreneurship and this motivated me to join a tech startup after my studies and later become part of an accelerator based in Africa. The headspace and opportunity to explore a career change was priceless! I am now in a space that I am very passionate about and feel that I have more impact. My sponsor was also very intentional in plugging me into a supportive community of other alumni who were similarly passionate about the continent. This alumni community is very dear to me and I see it being a supportive and safe space that will continually encourage me to be a changemaker.
Going to LSE was a dream for me! I would have never afforded to attend the university without the scholarship. Before joining LSE, I had wanted to switch to the tech/startup space but wasn't very clear on how to do it. My time at LSE really allowed me to immerse myself in the startup scene and I even got an alumni mentor who had a lot of experience as a woman in the tech space. The scholarship enabled me to take the bold step of taking a different direction in my careers as I was in an environment that gave me the tools to explore a new space and eventually dive into it.
Lee Brown, BSc Human Resource Management and Employment Relations, 2016
The scholarship helped me with the cost of going to university and to participate fully in my course. It allowed me the opportunity to concentrate on my studies and access opportunities and networks that I otherwise would not have been able to.
I was able to focus on my professional and personal ambitions, concentrating on my studies without worrying about the cost of funding it. This enabled me to benefit fully from the course and develop myself into becoming a greater thinker. The scholarship was instrumental in helping me to achieve my career ambitions.
It is important to provide scholarships as it enables the most financially disadvantaged students to participate in and benefit from going to university. Without this type of support, many students wouldn't be able to go to university otherwise. Scholarships are a lifeline for the most financially disadvantaged students.
Every gift you make, no matter the size, enables us to continue offering our students a first-class education and a life-changing experience.
The Regular Giving programme helps LSE to maintain its status as a world class university. The generosity of alumni, governors, staff and friends of LSE enables the Regular Giving programme to play a key role at the School.
As an alum of the Department of Management you can direct your donation to the department via the LSE Regular Giving programme. In the past, donations have helped us to ensure that the brightest minds, irrespective of financial circumstances, are able to study with us by offering full or partial scholarship awards.
Over the next few years are priorities are as follows:
Postgraduate Scholarships
Full-time study can present an enormous cost and barrier for prospective students. In addition to the tuition fee costs, the financing of visa costs and London living expenses becomes too great a barrier for many students to overcome, so the department aims to raise sufficient funds to offer scholarships to students who are most financially disadvantaged.
PhD Scholarships
Research is at the core of the Department's mission with the objective to produce and disseminate world-leading and impactful research in management and business with a distinctive social science foundation.
The Research Excellence Framework has demonstrated that our research and its wider impact is world leading and internationally excellent. PhD students form a crucial part of the Department of Management and we want to support the next generation of researchers with the extensive costs required to complete a PhD by offering full or partial scholarships.
