Private Law and Justice

Is private law concerned solely with what is right and fair between two private individuals (or companies) or is it also concerned with social policy and social justice? How should we understand the links between private law and fields such as consumer law, employment law, and landlord and tenant? Are those fields outside private law or are they modern versions of private law that have adjusted the model of private rights and duties to apply to relations between stronger and weaker parties in the market? Is modern private law better understood as a hybrid between the traditional model of the protection of rights and interests and a new regulatory dimension devoted to social justice?
