Barrister Caroline Mbinkar is a distinguished lawyer from Cameroon, whose work is known internationally. She co-founded a pro bono law chambers, ALL for Cameroon, supported by Allen and Overy. The chambers provides free legal assistance for those unable to otherwise afford it. As part of this work, Caroline runs a student law clinic, supervising and training students from around the world including Cameroon, Belgium, France, Nigeria, the UK, the USA, and Zimbabwe.
Prior to being sworn into the Cameroon Bar, Caroline was a committed human rights defender in Cameroon. Since joining the Bar in 2011, Caroline has supported hundreds of clients pro bono each year. This includes child and adult prisoners unable to access legal assistance, women subjected to widow dispossession, minority pastoral grazers denied access to land, victims of child trafficking, and many more. In addition to pursuing cases in the national courts, Caroline has worked on several high-profile international human rights cases, including UN petitions.
In 2017, violent conflict broke out in the anglophone regions of Cameroon. Caroline has been supporting research into the effects and causes of the conflict and she helped to establish the Cameroon Conflict Research Group at the University of Oxford. Caroline hopes to continue this work with the support of the Law School community at LSE.
