About me

Ayse Gizem joined the LSE Law School in 2023. Her scholarship focuses on AI regulation, innovation and entrepreneurship. At LSE Law School she teaches competition law and information technology law.

She was formerly a research fellow at Sciences Po in Paris and a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Glasgow’s CREATe Centre. She supervised the DIGILAW Program at the Sciences Po Law School Clinic. She has designed and taught courses on competition law, law and innovation, sociology of technology, and research methods at Sciences Po and Bilkent University since 2018.

Ayse Gizem has a PhD from Sciences Po Paris, a Magister Juris degree from the University of Oxford, an LL.M. degree from Université Paris II-Panthéon-Assas, and an LLB degree from Bilkent University. She practised as a competition lawyer between 2013-2016 and is a member of the Istanbul Bar Association.

Research interests

Ayse Gizem is currently researching EU innovation policy, competition and innovation in the video game industry, and artificial intelligence regulation. She is also writing on the influence of Joseph Schumpeter on XXIst century economic thought, particularly in competition economics.

External activities

Ayse Gizem  is a fellow at CREATe, where she is part of an ongoing project on Cloud Gaming and the Changing Landscape of the Video Game Industry.

Ayse Gizem is a member of Equity and Access in Algorithms, Mechanisms, and Optimization (EAAMO). She was previously a  co-organiser of EAAMO's Algorithms, Law and Policy working group.

She is also the co-director of the Academic Society for Competition Law – ASCOLA’s UK Chapter, and a member of the European Society for the History of Economic Thought.
